Outstanding performance of Iskra R9000 gets official MCS stamp

20th July 2010
Evance Press Release

Evance, a leader in the manufacture of small wind turbines, is pleased to announce that its R9000 5kW wind turbine has completed all tests and awarded full Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accreditation.

This accreditation is a formal recognition of the durability, reliability, safety and overall performance of the R9000, which provides customers with confidence in the turbine, as well as entitlement to income from Feed-in Tariffs.

For durability, the MCS states that a Class II turbine, such as the R9000, needs to be in operation for at least 6 months and achieve a minimum of 25 hours operating in winds greater that 15.3 m/s (34.2 mph). During this test period the R9000 substantially exceeded this parameters, by operating for over 200 hours in winds >15.3 m/s, proving its resilience. It actually saw sufficient wind to pass the Class I durability criteria within this timeframe.

To prove dependable operation the MCS required a 6 month running test. The R9000 test period began in November 2009 through to June 2010, with the turbine operating consistently throughout this period, so demonstrating its reliability.

“We are very pleased to have our product performance accredited as we have always been proud of the data we publish as our products are developed to BWEA testing standards,” stated Andrew Tasker, Product Director for Evance Wind Turbines Ltd. “We ran two concurrent test sites, in Cornwall and Shetland, which allowed us to rigorously test the turbine and tower in harsh winter conditions, with exceptional results.”

Turbines also have to pass the Safety & Function criteria which reviews and tests how a turbine copes with high wind speeds. For the R9000 this meant that the patented Reactive Pitchmechanism and Electro Brakewere fully tested, with both passing all requirements. Also technical information, such as load calculations and stress analysis, has been independently audited.

“We welcomed the introduction of the MCS as we believe it will improve standards across the industry. The R9000 is an excellent design, and it is good to see a product designed and manufactured in the UK meeting these stringent requirements” commented Kevin Parslow, CEO of Evance Wind Turbines Ltd. “The outstanding performance of the R9000 will give all customers, around the World, confidence to invest in small wind and Evance as a supplier of small wind turbines.”

Addition to Press Release: 'The Evance R9000 is the first sub 10kW product to achieve this giving confidnce to our customers that Evance and Greenthinking are commited to quality, safety and performance'.

Greenthinking at the Royal Cornwall Show

Laurence talking to an interested customer at the Royal Cornwall Show

Greenthinking
had a great time at the Royal Cornwall Show (10th-12th June). Laurence Smith (partner), Andrew Davey (Cornwall), Nick Zorab (Somerset) and Andy Heald (Cornwall) were all there to discuss the Evance Iskra R9000, Gaia 133 and Endurance Wind Turbines and to answer any questions that the public had ….. and they had lots, especially about the Feed in Tariff! All three days were very busy, the weather was perfect and Laurence even bumped into Prince Charles – what more could you ask for!

If you missed us this year you can always contact Greenthinking with your questions or come along and chat with us at the Honiton and District Agricultural Show on 5th August or the Okehampton and District Agricultural Show on 12th August.

The Feed in Tariff is here!

Would you like to Create Your Own Electricity and Laugh at Rising Energy Prices while Saving the Environment and having the Electricity Company Pay You?

The long awaited Feed in Tariff (Clean Energy Cash Back Scheme) came into force on 1st April 2010 making the payback times for the Evance Iskra R9000 and Gaia 133 Wind Turbines as little as 3 - 5 years on good sites.

Where's the catch? As the Money Guardian said on its front page on Saturday 6th February "There isn't one"!

Please see our Buying a Small Wind Turbine – FAQs and Feed in Tariffs – FAQs pages or contact Greenthinking for more information.

Farmers offered new Green Funding Deal

The Carbon Trust has announced an extension of interest-free energy saving loans for small and medium-sized business to farming.

English farmers are eligible for unsecured, interest-free loans for between £3,000 and £20,000 to help them upgrade to more energy-efficient equipment. The loans are designed to pay for themselves through direct energy savings provided over one to four years – and after the loan is repaid, farmers will make direct savings on their energy costs, as well as cutting the carbon footprint of what they produce.

For more details please see the Carbon Trust Press Release.

Feed in Tariff Rates Announced

The Government has today announced the Feed-in-Tariff rates for Households and Communities who install generating technologies such as small wind turbines and solar panels.

Incredibly the rates have actually increased over the previous proposals!

  • Evance/Gaia small wind is up from 23p to 26.7p
  • WES 18 up from 18p to 24p
  • WES 30 up from 18p to 18.8p
  • Solar PV < 4kW is up from 36.5p to 41.3p
  • Solar PV < 10kW is up from 31p to 36.1p

These rates, which start in April this year, are going to bring the pay-back times for the Evance Iskra R9000 and Gaia 133 down to 3-5 years for ideal sites after which the wind turbine owners would receive an 'income' of around £5,000 a year for the Evance Iskra R9000 and a massive £17,000 a year for the Gaia 133.

Greenthinking, along with the rest of the renewable energy industry, is expecting a large rise in interest so please contact Greenthinking now to ensure that you benefit from this 'windfall' as soon as possible.

More details will appear here as we get them. Meanwhile the full press release can be found on the Department of Energy and Climate Change website.

Farmers offered new Green Funding deal

From 1st February 2010 farmers will be able get financial help to invest in energy-saving equipment. This will help Farmers to slash their energy bills by a total of £4 million, and 25,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, using interest-free loans from the Carbon Trust.

British farmers will be eligible for unsecured, interest-free loans of between £3,000 and £20,000 to help them upgrade to more energy-efficient equipment.

Gaia Wind Turbine Open Day in Cornwall a great success.

The Open Day at Delabole, Cornwall held jointly by Segen and Greenthinking was a great success with around 60 interested parties attending.

On a showery, breezy day in Cornwall around 60 people turned up to view the newly installed Gaia 133 Small Wind Turbine at Delabole in Cornwall. Representatives from Greenthinking and Segen were present to answer questions as well as the owner of the Gaia 133 wind turbine who was able to give a personal account of his experience of the turbine and the service provided by Segen and Greenthinking. Those who came along included farmers and home owners as well as representatives from business and schools and colleges.

The Gaia 133 11kW Small Wind Turbine at Delabole, Cornwall has produced 4mW of electricity since it was installed on 28th October 2009 – a truly exceptional output for a turbine of its size.

Wheatland Farm eco lodges in Devon are considering installing a Gaia 113 Wind Turbine

Ian Ripper and Maggie Watson of Wheatland Farm eco-lodges are considering installing a Gaia 113 Small Wind Turbine to generate much of the electricity used on the farm.

Ian says: "We're a 'green' business, and run the farm for wildlife. We try to take the green route whenever we can but you don't need to be super-green to stay here. I know there are lots of voices against wind power, but we have to throw everything we've got at cutting our fossil energy use - renewables, energy efficiency, maybe even nuclear power, though I hate the thought. Personally, I think wind turbines are very elegant, unlike pylons, which no-body ever seems to raise an eyebrow about".

"Greenthinking have carried out a very comprehensive wind turbine site survey which has helped us to determine the feasibility of the project. We are very grateful to Greenthinking for all their help and advice".
